Sialkot Reels Under Its Heaviest Rainfall in History

Currently, there are rains going on in different parts of floods in pakistan, with sialkot under heavy rainfall in history Sialkot breaking a 49-year record. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) stated that during the last 24 hours, rainfall recorded was 363.5mm making it the heaviest rainfall. Earlier, the rainfall recorded was in 1976.

The department, in a post on X, confirmed, “363.5 mm rain in 24 hrs—49-year record broken!” and further they added that heavy rainfall had been forecasted in May and August. More rainfall is expected in the next few weeks. On August 6, 1976, the PMD said that the city recorded 339.7mm rains.

With such an amount of rain, India has also played a role which is not in favor of Pakistan that they released water in Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej rivers. This has caused an insult to injury for Pakistanis as several villages; crops are under water causing damage to hard work of the farmers and they are forced to move to safer places with their families and animals which are safe.

The military has been deployed in different cities of Pakistan like Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Narowal, and Okara. The water level in Ravi is in full swing since 1955 at Jassar and since 1988 at Shahdara, according to officials.

In Chenab’s Head Marala the water level rose to 902,224 cusecs resulting in local administration to seek military support.

Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar declared a district-wide emergency. On the other hand, Section 144 was imposed, banning public access to rivers, streams, and bridges. The current capacity of Nullah Aik is 25,000 cusecs but the water level rose double than it to 46,950 cusecs affecting the life cycle. Power supply was cut in many areas resulting in disruption of internet and mobile services as well.

Vast stretches of Rangpura, Nikka Pura, Shahab Pura, Defence Road, and Kareem Pura are under several feet of water. Tawi belt area was also majorly affected and 85 surrounding villages. Boats were used to rescue the families.
